A new way of seeig things

"Mom, the words won't stop bouncing around on the page and sometimes they are blurry or I see two of them!"
"I am trying to look at you mommy...I just can't make my eyes stay still they want to move around."
We started to hear these things on a daily basis and Amber began to get headaches as well.
And here recently we have witnessed that -at times- her eyes moved in DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS! We have had her eyes checked every year as a part of her routine physical, and she had always passed.

But this time I insisted she see a pediatric optomatrist.
We discovered that Amber has a neurological visual problem. Her eye muscles were not working together and they were working too hard. We were told that sometimes one eye would shut down input to the brain altogether. That might explain here occasional walking into the wall and clumsiness. She was given a prescription for glasses and an appointment for the Pediatric Eye Clinic where they will assess if she needs eye therapy as well.
The exact medical term for her vision problem was not given to me at this appointment.
When Amber got her glasses she was excited beyond words. She looked all around and read things for me commenting that things were "not bouncing or fuzzy!"

Amber is to wear these glasses to help train her eyes to work together instead of against each other. The hope is that the glasses will be all that is needed. She wears them when ever she reads or draws or does anything closer than arms length.
School lessons may now be easier. We will have an adjustment period, but Amber seems to read better already after just one week with her glasses. We celebrated her new glasses with lolly pops.
This is a hereditary disorder and Sam has it, too. Now we will have Abby and Anna checked as the optometrist was adamant that the earlier we treat the issue the better the results will be.
