We took Abby to the ear nose and throat specialist this past Tuesday. She has been having increasing trouble in her speech therapy sessions due to the fact that her hearing is greatly diminished. She has had 4 hearing tests over the past 10 months and with each test she scored lower ( her hearing level is less).
When the audiologist would say a word and have Abby repeat it these are some of her responses:
"cowboy" to her was "toothpaste"
"bathtub" to her was " popcorn"
her writing of words looked like this:
"Stove" to her is "stob"
"splinter" to her is "spitter"
"Them" to her is "DUM"
"open "and "oven" sound the same to her ,too
The audiologist told me to "always make sure that she is facing you if you have something important to say..or else she may never hear it. She has significant hearing loss"
The ENT has decided that the loss may be corrected by lessening the pressure in her ears (from fluid) and the pressure on her Eustachian tubes from her adenoids. He feels that she needs her tonsils and adenoids out along with a set of pediatric tubes inserted into her ears. He wanted to do this very soon as her speech is getting worse (she does not hear half of the consonants in words). Her school work suffers ,too, due to the confusion of sounds.
THE DATE OF SURGERY IS SET FOR MAY 27th.
Sam and I are still not sure of this is the right action to take. Surgery is a big ordeal. Abby is thin, tiny and anemic off and on. They seem to think she is healthy enough, though.
So at this point we are praying for the wisdom to make the right choice. All prayers made on her behalf would be appreciated.
